“The appearance of the other in the world corresponds therefore to a congealed sliding of the whole universe.”
― Jean-Paul Sartre, Being and Nothingness
Not everyone is up for the intensity of hearing someone’s voice come directly through your phone, and responding to it directly without interruption.
Why? We live in a distracted age. It’s much easier and more natural to fiddle around, to have a task, to have something to do. Generally we must be in the same location to share a task, but we know that in the age of the internet this isn’t true. We can play games with our friends and hear their voices directly.
Why then create another app for shared games? Isn’t Discord far more advanced than anything we could create? There are games in our app but the purpose is not to play advanced games. The purpose is to have a call, and share an experience on our phones at the same time.
The initial intensity of a phone call or a video call is reduced because there are these things to discover and play with, you are not fully engaged by a game but by the shared experience of playing with an other, and your communication is instant and direct unlike asyncronous messaging apps.
